Michigan State University interior design seniors, Lauren Stoklas and Michael Bry, have been awarded the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship to study abroad this fall at the American University in Dubai (AUD).
The Clinton Scholarship is offered to 10 U.S. students each semester to strengthen their exposure to Middle Eastern culture. The recipients must demonstrate exemplary academic achievement. The scholarship covers full tuition and housing for a semester.
Their study advisor abroad, Interior Design Assistant Professor Linda Nubani, said “Having taught at AUD for over 10 years prior to joining MSU, I echo President Clinton’s acknowledgement of AUD’s multicultural structure and the opportunity this will give students to experience diversity.”
The Council for Interior Design Accreditation accredits both the MSU Interior Design Program and the Interior Design Program at AUD, where Stoklas and Bry will be studying. The students are expected to graduate from Michigan State University in Spring 2019.
Stoklas commented on receiving the award: "The Clinton Scholarship will further expand my breadth of knowledge in regards to architecture and interior design by offering me global perspective, while simultaneously allowing me to better understand Middle Eastern culture."
"I am looking forward to learning more about a culture that isn't my own,” Bry said. “I plan to use my experiences to teach others about the benefits of travel and diversity when I return. This will truly be a life-changing experience."
The MSU Interior Design Program is a part of the School of Planning, Design and Construction—Spartans Built to Lead.
