Michigan State University’s Pesticide Safety Education Program has released a new self-paced online course designed to help pesticide applicators earn Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) recertification credits or prepare for the Michigan Pesticide Applicator Certification Exam in Category 1A.

The Field Crop Pest Management course was developed to support Michigan pesticide applicators by providing flexible, accessible training that aligns directly with the Field Crop Pest Management Manual. The course focuses on core pest management principles specific to field crop production and responds to continued demand for online learning options that fit applicators’ schedules.

Instruction is organized into two modules that mirror key chapters in the manual. Topics include integrated pest management and field crop insect pests, allowing participants to build foundational knowledge or review specific subject areas relevant to their operations.

Upon successful completion of the course, certified pesticide applicators in Michigan may request four RUP recertification credits in Private Core or Category 1A. The course also serves as preparation for the Michigan Pesticide Applicator Certification Exam for the sections covered within the Field Crop Pest Management Manual.

The online course is self-paced and available for a registration fee of $30. Participants must create a Michigan State University Guest Account to register. After registration, participants receive instructions by email on how to access the course materials.

MSU PSEP will continue expanding its online, self-paced offerings to support Michigan’s agricultural workforce. In addition to the Field Crop Pest Management Course, a complimentary fruit pest management course and vegetable pest management course are also available for applicators seeking additional training opportunities.
