Bulletins Live! Two Tracker Report available now
To raise awareness of pesticides currently impacted by the new EPA Bulletins Live! Two pesticide label directive, Michigan State University Extension will be generating a Bulletins Live! Two Tracker Report twice a month.
In an effort to address concerns related to the impact of pesticides on threatened or endangered species and in response to ongoing litigation, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is implementing a new label directive on some pesticides that requires applicators to check a live online system for additional use limitations based on the application parameters (date and location). The online system is called Bulletins Live! Two (BLT) and it determines if additional pesticide use limitations are needed to protect listed species or habitat based on the site location and application month.
The system is intended to avoid blanket use restrictions and instead limit restrictions to geographic and time-specific use patterns that should be avoided to protect endangered species and their habitat.
It can be difficult for applicators to stay up to date on Bulletins Live! Two changes impacting pesticide labels because the BLT system can be updated at any time and there is no official communication channel from EPA regarding changes. To help raise awareness of ongoing changes, Michigan State University Extension is generating a Bulletins Live! Two Tracker Report that lists the products currently requiring applicators to use the BLT system and will highlight products with pesticide use limitations in Michigan. The list will also indicate any products that are newly added and will be updated twice a month.
Applicators should be aware of a couple of important points:
- Th BLT Tracker Report is a tool to raise awareness of changes in the BLT system but cannot be relied upon to make application decisions. Always refer to the label and BLT system to verify the accuracy of information.
- Follow the directions attached to the pesticide container in hand. There will be instances when a pesticide has been added to the BLT system, but the product is already in the marketplace and will take some time to turn over. The label in hand should be followed.
- Applicators are responsible for checking pesticide labels for the BLT directive in the “Directions for Use” section and visiting the BLT website if necessary.
- To view a live list of products impacted by pesticide use limitations by county, visit EPA Data Download. Please note this will display only products that may limit pesticide applications or require mitigation within the selected county and does not include the full list of products that will require applicators to visit the BLT website.
