Plan a project for Make a Difference Day!

EmailYouth and adults around the country are making a difference in their communities. What are you going to do this year to make a difference?
Every October, youth and adults from around the county come together to make a difference. This day is called Make A Difference Day and has been sponsored by the Point of Light Foundation and the USA Weekend. This day is designed for youth and adults to give back to their communities by using their hands to make a difference. This year Make A Difference Day is Oct. 26, 2013.
Many youth organizations, such as 4-H, get involved in this day. Michigan State University Extension has suggestions for getting started:
Step 1: Find a project
Look around your community. Are people hungry, homeless or ill? Are parks or schools dirty or neglected? No matter where you live, there’s a need nearby and on Make A Difference Day millions of Americans roll up their sleeves to help others.
Step 2: Register your project
Get the word out about your project through the Make A Difference Day website. This will enable volunteers to find your project to help.
Step 3: Do it!
On Oct. 26 carry out your plans to help others! Complete your part for the National Day of Good and remember to capture the day with pictures, videos and social media posts.
Step 4: Report your results
After completing your Make A Difference Day project, go back to the website and update the details of your project including how many volunteers participated by Nov. 18, 2013
The Make A Difference Day website has lots of information to help a club or group get started. Groups are also eligible for money, if their project is picked a winner.
Michigan 4-H Youth Development also has some community service resources that groups can use to help develop their plan for making a difference in their community.
