Trainings for 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassadors
Once a teen is committed to the role of 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassador, there are several trainings available to help them be successful in their roles.
In a previous article, Michigan State University Extension explored the position description and benefits of becoming a 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassador with the Healthy Habits Walmart Foundation grant program. Once a teen is committed to the role of 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassador, they are also able to attend local, state and national trainings. The teen ambassador trainings cover a host of topics such as facilitation skills, leadership, ages and stages of youth development, icebreakers and 4-H curriculum.
The first 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassador training will be held on the campus of Michigan State University on Saturday, January 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Held in Room 175 of the Brody Complex, this training is for current and aspiring 4-H Healthy Living Teen Ambassadors that are interested in learning more about 4-H healthy living programs, facilitation skills and curriculum. It is a free training that includes lunch and fun giveaways.
Another available Healthy Living Teen Ambassador training is a national training entitled the National 4-H Healthy Living Summit. Held at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, this training will be held February 16-19 and assists high school students develop the knowledge and skills to address issues including nutrition education, physical fitness, wellness and emotional well-being. Teens will be placed in teams of 2-10 students that will be formed to represent Michigan 4-H. The Healthy Living Summit costs $560 per youth and a small amount of partial scholarships are available for current Healthy Living Teen Ambassadors. Registration for this event closes on February 2.
