URP Alumni Spotlight: Lina Chapman
Alumna Lina Chapman shares aspects of her career after graduating from MSU with a degree in Urban & Regional Planning.
What are you doing now, personally and/or professionally?
Professionally, I’ve been working for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for the past 12 years. I’ve been a transportation planner, then specialist, and now planning supervisor.
In this role, my unit is responsible for assuring that the delivery of the Highway Capital program is within financial constraint. We are responsible for the Five-Year Transportation Program, the annual Highway Call for Projects, long-range revenue estimating, road quality forecasting, and for ensuring compliance with federal transportation performance measures.
We often respond to requests by the Governor’s office on the impacts of various funding proposals on system condition, and we have been deeply involved in the delivery of bond-financed road projects through the Rebuilding Michigan program.
My job is often challenging, but never boring, and I think that’s what suits me best.
Personally, I live in Williamston on the banks of the Red Cedar River with my husband of 13 years and our three kids, ages 12, 7, and 6.
