Want to meet a cow? Tour the new MSU Dairy Facility

Learn about the dairy farm and current research projects.

MSU Extension educator Paola Bacigalupo Sanguesa speaks to visitors at the MSU Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center.

The new MSU Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center expands the research and teaching capabilities at Michigan State University. The modern facility supports hands-on learning for certificate, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as cutting-edge research to keep Michigan at the forefront of the dairy industry.

Upgrades to the facility include robotic milking systems, advanced feed centers, calf barns and milking parlor, as well as classroom and laboratory space. By integrating with the Anaerobic Digestion Research and Education Center, manure is processed to generate hot water and electricity.

The farm is opening to the public for tours on July 11 and August 8. Visitors will hear from MSU faculty, staff and students about the research, teaching and Extension activities that take place at the farm. During facility tours, visitors can view the milking parlor, cow barns and learn about calf and maternity care. The MSU Dairy Store will have ice cream available for purchase (credit card only).

These events are free, but pre-registration is required. Register here for the July 11 open house and here for the August 8 open house. Tours are optional and require about three-quarters of a mile of walking. Please wear closed-toed shoes.
