10 Cents a Meal Data and Evaluation intern, CRFS
Department of Community Sustainability

Email:

Elena is a master's student in Sustainable Food Systems at Arizona State University, and she joins CRFS as the 10 Cents a Meal Data and Evaluation intern. In addition to being a student, she works as the Assistant Program Manager at the MSU-Detroit Partnership for Food, Learning, and Innovation (DPFLI) in Detroit, where she leads the Urban Fruit Brigade community orchard training program, manages youth programming, and helps steward the site’s food forest and annual vegetable production.

Raised in a farming community in Northern Michigan, Elena began working in organic agriculture in her early teens and carried that passion into her studies at the University of Michigan, where she focused on environmental justice and food access. After earning a BA in Social Theory and Practice, Elena served as a FoodCorps Service Member in Detroit and later as the Farm to School Coordinator in Traverse City. In both of these roles, Elena was involved with 10 Cents a Meal and saw firsthand its power to impact children and communities. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this project!
