Brief write up of my project: Yemi’s research can be divided into three parts. First, he is researching literatures (literature review) to gather a compendium of both legacy and unregulated contaminants and pathogens such as Disinfection by products, Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS), organic contaminants, microplastic contaminants, flame retardants and legacy chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs), waterborne pathogens, contaminants through infrastructural failures, pesticides, endocrine disrupting compounds, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, musk fragrances. Second, based on the literature, a long list of contaminants categorized as contaminants candidate list (CCL), Unregulated Contaminants Monitoring Rule (UMCR), Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and other unregulated contaminants would be produced, and these contaminants would be narrowed down to those that directly impact GLWA. Lastly, multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) method would be used to rank these contaminants and the results would help in making policy decisions for GLWA and other stakeholders.
