Who can join?
You don’t need to have worn a 4‑H clover as a youth to belong.
If 4‑H has been part of your life—or if you simply care about helping young people thrive—you’re welcome here. This includes staff members, parents, volunteers, grandparents, supports, partner organization representatives, donors, etc.)
Members of Michigan 4-H Alumni and Friends do need to be 18 years old or older.
I thought I already joined a Michigan 4-H alumni network. Why sign up again?
You may have previously shared your information with National 4-H or signed up to receive updates and an alumni newsletter from Michigan 4-H — and that's great! However, this group is specifically for the official Michigan 4-H Alumni & Friends database.
Joining here ensures you’re connected directly to Michigan-specific opportunities, events, and updates, and helps us build a strong, engaged network of alumni and supporters across the state. It also allows us to better understand how individuals want to stay involved and support Michigan 4-H moving forward.
What does "alumni" mean in 4-H?
Alumni include anyone who has been involved as a youth 4-H member at any point in their life. Being an alumni does not mean that you were involved for a minimum number of years or aged out of the program at age 19.
Do I have to be a Michigan resident to join?
No. People with ties to Michigan 4‑H—past or present—are welcome, even if they live out of state.
Do I have to have participated in Michigan 4-H in the past?
No. We welcome 4-H alumni, 4-H supporters and anyone for whom 4-H has been a meaningful part of your life (as a parent, volunteer, etc.).
Do I have to commit a certain amount of time?
No. There is no required time commitment. Members can engage at whatever level works for them.
Are there dues?
At this time, there is no fee for being a part of Michigan 4-H Alumni and Friends. Funding support comes from Michigan State University Extension and donors to MSU Extension and the Michigan 4-H Foundation. To specifically support the continued work of Michigan 4-H Alumni and Friends, please reach out to the Michigan 4-H Foundation.
What does the group do?
The group supports Michigan 4‑H by building community, sharing stories, celebrating impact, promoting opportunities, and encouraging alumni and friends to stay engaged in meaningful ways.
Will joining mean I'm expected to donate?
No. Donations are never required. While giving opportunities may be shared, joining is about connection and support, not financial obligation.
How can members stay involved?
All opportunities are optional. These may include:
Attending local or statewide alumni events
Volunteering or mentoring
Sharing your 4‑H story or photos
Helping spread the word about 4‑H programs
Supporting youth learning and leadership
Can I volunteer through this group?
Yes, members may learn about volunteer opportunities, but joining the Alumni and Friends group does not automatically enroll you as a volunteer.
How often will I hear from the group?
Communications are designed to be meaningful and not overwhelming. Frequency will vary, but the goal is to share timely and relevant updates.

Yes. Members can update their contact information or preferences as needed on the same registration link by clicking the box next to “Update” on the top.
