In this book talk, author Nessa Richman will share practical strategies and actionable, research-based tools for building equitable, resilient local food systems from her new book, Growing Resilience: How Food Policy Councils Build Civic Engagement and Community Well-Being (Routledge, 2026). Topics will include using a systems-based approach, participation strategies, and the 10 requirements of high-functioning food policy councils. The event will also include a discussion and examples from Michigan-based local food policy councils and engage the audience in what works for resilient, sustainable food systems.

This event is hosted by the MSU Center for Regional Food Systems through the Statewide and Regional Food Systems Plans National Community of Practice (NCoP) and the Michigan Local Food Council Network.
