Certificate Programs
Students earn a certificate upon successful completion of 12 credits (normally four courses) within eight years from applicable online courses through IFLR.
Requirements for Certificate in International Food Law
- Total of 12 credits (normally four courses)
- Three or more credits (one course or more) must be from the following:
- FSC 810 International Food Laws and Regulations
- FSC 812 Food Laws and Regulations in the European Union
- FSC 816 International Food Standards, Codex Alimentarius
- No more than one U.S.-focused course
Requirements for Certificate in United States Food Law
- Total of 12 credits (normally four courses)
- Three credits must be from “FSC 811, Food Laws and Regulations in the United States”
- No more than one internationally-focused course
Interested in both certificates?
- Three credits can be applied toward both certificates
- Students may therefore earn both certificates after 21 credits (seven courses) instead of 24 credits (eight courses)

Note:
- Credits must be earned within eight years to be applied towards a certificate (effective June 2022).
- All IFLR courses are currently offered as 3 credit courses (as of fall semester 2017).
- Successful completion is a grade of 2.0 or higher.
- IFLR has offered a "Certificate in International Food Law" since 1998 and introduced the "Certificate in United States Food Law" in 2017.
- Students who successfully completed courses FSC 813 and/or 854 before the courses were discontinued in March 2022 may request to apply them towards the relevant certificate. Please reach out to our Program Administrator at iflr@msu.edu for details.
- FSC 820, Regulatory Leadership in Food Law, previously counted towards the US certificate only. It may be applied to either the International or US certificates starting Fall Semester 2022.
