Fen restoration
Prairie fen is a globally rare wetland type that is still relatively common in the Midwestern and Northeastern United States. However, fens and the rare species they support won't persist without a concerted effort to identify, protect and restore them. The pages listed below contain information on how to identify, evaluate and restore fen habitats and represents collaboration between Michigan State University, The Nature Conservancy, Michigan Natural Features Inventory, the Michigan DNR Landowner Incentive Program, and The Stewardship Network.
Funding for the above work was provided by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Lynn and Thelma MacCready Forest and Wildlife Endowment, MSU, and the Hanes Trust of the Michigan Botanical Club.
