European Union flags

MSU's Institute for Food Laws and Regulations (IFLR) offers a graduate-level online course in Food Laws and Regulations in the European Union each fall semester. The course can be taken as a stand-alone, as part of the Master of Science in Food Regulatory Affairs, or students may apply it towards a certificate in international or U.S. food law.

Prof. Martin Holle of Hamburg University of Applied Sciences teaches the course and welcomes the following guest speakers:

  • Sarah Arayess, Attorney, on "The Principle of Mutual Recognition in the EU Internal Market"
  • Raymond O'Rourke, Barrister, on "Importing Food into the EU"
  • Cesare Varallo, Lawyer & founder of Food Law Latest, on "The EU Regulatory Framework for Control of Food Fraud"

The course is designed for attorneys, food science professionals, regulators, HACCP, ISO-9000 and ISO-22000 consultants and certification officials, and industry professionals who must maintain certification requirements. It provides students with an overview of the systems of food regulation practiced in the European Union.
