Dr. David S. Douches leads the potato breeding and genetics project at MSU since 1988 releasing over 30 varieties. He currently serves as the Project Director of the USAID-funded Feed the Future Global Biotech Potato Partnership for Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Kenya. As a professor in MSU’s Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, he is also the lead-PI in the USDA/NIFA-funded North Central Regional Potato Breeding and Genetics project and is the co-PI of the USDA/BRAG-funded potato gene editing project to assess off-target effects. Previously, he was the director of the Solanaceae Coordinated Agricultural Project (SolCAP) which developed four potato SNP arrays used by the potato breeding and genetics community. Since 2010, he has served as the director of the Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology Interdepartmental Graduate Program at Michigan State University and is the course instructor of a lab-based plant biotechnology techniques and principles course. Dr. Douches has experience working in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa, China, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, as well as the U.S.
