Background:
I received my BSc in Biology and BA in Psychology from Converse College (Spartanburg, SC) in 2014. During my undergraduate career, I completed a variety of internships in animal welfare and toxicology. After completing my degrees and study abroad experience, I joined the Animal Ambassadors Department of the Birmingham Zoo (Birmingham, AL). In addition to daily husbandry for a variety of species and participated in community outreach and engagement to promote the Zoo’s mission and conservation efforts. In 2018, I completed my MSc in Animal Behaviour at the University of Exeter (Exeter, England), where I studied inhibitory control and cognition in pheasants. At MSU, I am working with Dr. Wagner to investigate how migrating sea lamprey use habitat features and chemical cues to avoid predators when moving through rivers. This information will aid in effective invasive species management in the Great Lakes.
