Background:

The core goal of our work is to understand lamprey biology and develop tools to help control populations of sea lamprey that are invasive in the Great Lakes. As a complement to this, we also study fishes native to the Great Lakes (e.g., cisco) and seek tools to help restore their populations. Our research uses a range of approaches spanning chemistry, genomics, physiology, and behavior, and takes place in our fish facility, at the US Geological Survey’s Hammond Bay Biological Station, and in the field.

My position is funded by the Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC). The GLFC, together with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State University, form the Partnership for Ecosystem Research and Management (PERM).
