MSU Extension Product Center

With Public Act 51 of 2025 signed into Michigan law, cottage food operations are able to voluntarily register with the MSU Product Center. This registration would enable the operation to use an assigned registration number on their labels in place of their name and address. The registration will be exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. 

A cottage food operation that does not register with the MSU Product Center will need to use their name and address of the cottage food operation on their labels. 

Registration System Update

The MSU Product Center will be announcing a system for this registration soon, in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Please keep an eye on this website for updates on the process.
