Forecasting risk runoff through EnviroImpact Tool
Michigan State University and Michigan Sea Grant Extension and other partners produced the MSU EnviroImpact, an online decision-support tool providing users with regularly updated forecasts for surface runoff risk.
Agriculture producers have a need to manage when to apply nutrients from manure to Michigan’s landscape. In some areas of the Great Lakes, excess nutrient applications have contributed to nuisance levels of harmful algal blooms, for example in western Lake Erie.
Michigan State University and Michigan Sea Grant Extension and other partners produced the MSU EnviroImpact (http://www.enviroimpact.iwr.msu.edu/), an online decision-support tool providing users with regularly updated forecasts for surface runoff risk. The tool was developed as part of a Great Lakes regional effort to improve “Runoff Risk Decision Support” tools.
The tool currently has 32 accounts created, and during the period from June 2017 to June 2018, there were:
- 208 alert text messages sent.
- 810 unique users (individual web IP addresses).
- 4,145 page views on the EnviroImpact tool site.
