How did the FSHN study abroad scholarship funds you received helped enhance your experience within your major?
The study abroad scholarship funds enhanced my academic and professional development by allowing me to participate in a study abroad internship in Ghana focused on child development. Through this experience, I gained firsthand insight into the challenges children face in low-resource settings, particularly related to health and education in early childhood. While working in various hospitals, schools, and disability clinics, I worked closely with local educators and healthcare providers, applying and deepening my knowledge of the correlation between cultural context and developmental milestones. This opportunity allowed me to apply theories from my coursework to real-life situations, enhancing my ability to support children’s growth in diverse settings. Immersing myself in a different cultural setting helped me focus on learning, building meaningful relationships within the community, and furthering my adaptability. Overall, this experience broadened my global perspective and deepened my passion for working with children and families from diverse backgrounds across cultures.
