David Jukes
Dr. David Jukes worked initially in the food industry and had several years as a food technologist with a major UK retailer. He joined the University of Reading in 1982 and works in the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences.
Dr. Jukes quickly developed his interest in food legislation and has published on various topics linked to national food controls systems and more specific aspects of food legislation. In 1996 he established one of the first food law websites which provides access to both UK and EU material (see: http://www.reading.ac.uk/foodlaw/).
Dr. Jukes was appointed senior lecturer in food regulation in 2001 and is now the university’s associate professor in food regulation. His lecturing and frequent conference talks have taken him to many countries including the United States, Canada, Hungary, Bulgaria, Oman, Dubai, Singapore, Australia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
As well as his expertise in UK and EU legislation, Dr. Jukes has undertaken food law studies in Eastern Europe (with EU funding) and several developing countries (with EU and international funding) and has acted as a food law consultant to several governments seeking to enhance their national food control systems.
