With a passion for growing since childhood, Susan earned a degree in biology and chemistry. She spent her summer after graduating picking apples on an orchard in Washington State which piqued her interest in someday starting a farm. Her background in science was the perfect fit for learning the ins and outs of farming and allowed her to hone her growing skills as a farmer. After teaching 8th grade science for 30 years, Susan finally retired and started Open Sky Organic Farm. What started as a small hoop house operation, eventually turned into a booming four season farm. Open Sky Farm is run by Susan and her daughter, Katie, and specializes in specialty cut flowers, unusual varieties, and unique floral designs.
