Kids

Help kids and teens achieve an hour a day of active play.

Why Physical Activity Matters for Kids

Physical activity is important for the growth and development of preschoolers, school-aged children, and teens. Free play, organized sports, and everyday activities like chores, active hobbies, and walking or cycling builds strong muscles, bones, and hearts. Active kids have a better chance of staying healthy throughout adulthood.

How Much Physical Activity do Kids Need?

  • Ages 3-5: Should be active throughout the day.
  • Ages 6-17: At least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Move Your Way®, the physical activity campaign from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends a mix of activities for kids ages 6 through 17.

Children and teens need at least 60 minutes of movement each day. Activities should raise their heart rate and make them breathe faster. At least three days a week, this movement should include more challenging activities that help build strong muscles and bones.
