View all Strength Training Basics VideosTo perform a dumbbell side lateral raise, start with your feet shoulder width apart. Hold a pair of dumbbells in each hand and hold them at your sides. With your chest up and back straight, raise the weights straight out to your side, keeping your arms straight or a slight bend in your elbows. Your hand should be facing down. And you want to make sure that you're coming up as high as you comfortably can and returning the weight to the starting position in a slow and controlled move.
